Two transition-metal complexes (HCr(CO)3Cp and coboloximes) have been used to catalyze radical cyclization reactions under H2. With HCr(CO)3Cp the reactions are mostly cyclohydrogenation while with cobaloximes the reactions are mostly cycloisomerization. Kinetic studies imply that the resting state of HCr(CO)3Cp is the hydride while the resting state of cobaloxime is a monoligated cobalt metalloradical. These different resting states explain why the different catalysts give different products.
