Abstract:
Translating academic research into commercial products is a nontrivial task. While we all experience the academic side of research here at Columbia, we don’t often get the chance to learn about the process of commercializing research discoveries so that practical products can be developed and brought to the market. Experts in this field, Naomi Schrag, Vice President for Research Compliance, Training and Policy, and Ofra Weinberger, Associate Vice President for IP and Tech Transfer, will explain how Columbia University handles commercialization, provide you with a basic understanding of the opportunities and the challenges, and will describe the potential conflicts of interest that may be involved and how they may be managed.
